I would totally at least give a guy that would say or actually do this a chance. lol. I recently joined up at the Absolute Write forums and while browsing around came across a post asking for dating advice by a guy with Asperger's Syndrome. I was honest with him and just said that I'm supposed to be normal and have the exact same fear or over thinking that he does. Just goes to show you that dating sucks all around whether you like it or not. But one reply I thought was really clever and cute:

"Well, that's an easy one: [in reference to someone asking about how to take the step from being a friend to a boyfriend]

1: Send her a query letter with all of your basic information. Make sure to include your special traits (snore volume, peck-dance duration, etc.) and remember to include any successful past relationships. Friendships and internet relationships do not count.

2a: Wait three to four weeks. She may ask for a synopsis, so be prepared to write one or have one already prepared (2k words maximum). Include only the important aspects of yourself and your past. Remember, she's probably very busy.

2b: If you do not hear back by then, take it as a rejection and try again. The carpet-bomb query method is NOT advised here.

3a: If she likes what she reads, she may ask to meet you in person. Keep in mind that rejection is not too late at this point, but your chances are quite good.

3b: Refer to 2b.

4: If you're still in the game at this point and the up-front meeting has gone well, congratulations, she's interested! (Note* Future binding contracts may be required, along with multiple-child deals.)"

But I just thought that was pretty amusing and wanted to share. If only dating were that easy. Honestly when you think about it shopping out a novel is a lot easier than dating.

Haha. So if I ever get discouraged about my writing career I'll just look at my love life for the "it could be worse."

Good news about publishing...

Well no I haven't been published yet. But I'm sure I will be soon!!! No not my fiction either. That still needs a lot of work. However I know my critical stuff is stellar and until this morning I didn't know that Strange Horizons publishes critical essays! Now if I only knew how to write a query email properly... (don't worry I'm just going to google it). I'm going to see if they'd like me to adapt some of my essays that relate to speculative fiction (which several do). You only get 50 bucks per article but I really don't care about the money. How awesome would it be for someone to read what I thought critically. And care?! I know posting this is premature but it was just fate that I somehow ended up on their website this morning. That is my ultimate dream. Writing fiction is just a side project I do for fun. What I really want is for people to listen to what I have to say about speculative fiction. And believe me when I say that some of it is important to the literary cannon. Oooh I can't wait. But first I need to study for my math quiz today. Then later I'm sending off those query emails!!! They haven't had any true critical essays to publish in awhile either. So maybe they'll be excited too.
